John R. Thomas – Senior Pastor
Pastor Thomas has served as the Senior Pastor at Tabernacle since 1992. A native New Yorker, Pastor Thomas was raised in a believing family in the Binghamton area. He earned degrees from Baptist Bible Seminary (A.A.), State University of New York (B.S., Psychology), and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.). Pastor Thomas’s passion is to the dedicated study and preaching of the Word of God.
Before coming to Tabernacle, Pastor Thomas served as the senior pastor at First Day Baptist Church in Richburg, NY and Grace Baptist Church in Geneva, NY. Pastor Thomas has been married to his wife, Elrene, since 1972. They have three children, David, Nathan, and Christina, who are all walking with the Lord. In his spare time, Pastor Thomas enjoys the theater and spending time in New York City.
Steve Galt – Associate Pastor
Pastor Galt’s passion is to see people come to experience the life-transforming power of the gospel in every area of their lives. He was born and raised in a small town in Southeast Kansas where he came to Christ as a young adult. Pastor Galt went on to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Theology (B.A.) and then on to Wheaton College Graduate School where he earned his master’s degree in Biblical Studies (M.A.).
Pastor Galt joined the Tabernacle family in April 2010. Prior to his tenure at Tabernacle, he served on the pastoral staff of Harvest Bible Chapel in the Chicago area where he had oversight of small groups and church assimilation. Pastor Galt lives in Poughkeepsie with his wife, Stacy, and their two children. In his spare time he enjoys reading classic literature and scholarly works on theology and biblical studies.
